Top 10 Healthy Restaurants in Portland By Andrea West

We all want to eat healthy, but not all of us have the time to hand-craft a meal from scratch night after night. And, lucky for us, that’s where these Portland-area restaurants come into play.

We took a look at some of the highest-rated healthy restaurants in Portland, according to Yelp reviews. In order to land high up on the list, Yelp analyzed data from both the number of stars the users gave the restaurants and the number of actual ratings a restaurant received. In other words, if a place had a 5-star review but only two reviews, then it got pushed further down the list.

Without further ado, here are the Top 10 healthy restaurants in Portland, according to Yelp:

10. Native Bowl

4233 N Mississippi Ave. • 503-330-7616

4.5 star rating, 119 reviews

With dishes like The Hollywood (lemon garlic tahini sauce, grilled garbanzo beans, red cabbage, pita chips, pepperoncinis and scallions on a bed of jasmine rice), you'll hardly miss the meat at this vegetarian restaurant. What's more, this spot also uses locally made tofu and soymilk from Ota Tofu, as well as soy curls from Butler Foods in Grand Ronde.

9. Laughing Planet Café

721 NW 9th Ave. • 503-505-5020

4.0 star rating, 117 reviews

The New American-Mexican hybrid spot allows you to get your Mex fix without having to pay for it with your waistline. Plus it has a toy bar, filled with colorful plastic aliens, dinosaurs and just about everything else. How cool is that?

8. Loving Hut

1239 SW Jefferson St. • 503-248-6715

4.5 star rating, 215 reviews

With vegan renditions of Chinese favorites like Chicken Teriyaki and Sweet and Sour Chicken and even American classics like hamburgers and fried chicken stripes, one thing that can be said for this eatery is that it has variety.

7. Canteen

2816 SE Stark St. • 503-922-1858

4.0 star rating, 202 reviews

You could practically eat at this spot for all of your meals throughout the day, with the oatmal with goji berries and walnuts for breakfast, the Portland bowl for lunch and the Bangkok bowl for dinner. (And don’t forget their juices and smoothies!)

6. The Whole Bowl

4409 SE Hawthorne Blvd. • 503-753-7071

4.0 star rating, 151 reviews

We’re noticing a theme here, and it’s that Portlanders love vegetarian and vegan cuisine. Next up on the ranking of the top healthy restaurants in Portland is The Whole Bowl, a vegetarian restaurant that literally only serves one thing. Their signature dish contains brown rice, sour cream olives, avocado, cilantro, tali sauce, cheddar cheese, salsa, and black and red beans. Simple and delicious!

5. Garden Bar

25 NW 11th Ave. • 971-888-5263

4.5 star rating, 127 reviews

Salads go into overdrive at this leafy green spot. Choose between ordering off the menu, or opt to make your own at this creative salad bar.

4. Blossoming Lotus

1713 NE 15th Ave. • 503-228-0048

4.5 star rating, 623 reviews

This top-ranked eatery serves up raw food, plus vegan and vegetarian meals. Bonus: it also has a pretty legit bar. Try the tacos (any of them!) and the vegan chocolate banana cake. You won’t be sorry.

3. Brooklyn House Restaurant

3131 SE 12th Ave. • 503-236-6761

4.5 star rating, 106 reviews

2. Harlow

3632 SE Hawthorne Blvd. • 971-255-0138

4.5 star rating, 381 reviews

This place may very well serve up the best mac-and- cheese in the city, with just one catch: there isn’t any cheese. This vegetarian eatery also has a pretty creative cocktail menu.

1. Prasad

925 NW Davis St. • 503-224-3993

4.5 star rating, 453 reviews

Number 1 on this list is the Pearl District eatery Prasad. With names for dishes like the Dragon Bowl, what’s not to love about this creative eatery? What’s also neat about this restaurant is that it’s located inside Yoga Pearl, hence the table tents reminding everyone to “speak mindfully” since massage, meditation and yoga is in session.

Which of your favorites healthy restaurants landed on the list?
